Program Note
Composed for the same ensemble as Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time, A time, a Place is a contemporary meditation on transformation and emotional release.
Interweaving driving rhythms, lyrical lines, and classical technique, the work moves across stylistic boundaries—inviting new listeners while holding space for those more familiar with the chamber tradition.
The piece begins with a slow rousing of energy, like the stirrings of an awakening. From there, it unfolds as a journey—from tension to tenderness, from rest to unrest and back to stillness.
At its heart, a time, a place is about finding clarity through motion, and calm through catharsis—a sonic invitation to pause, reflect, and feel.
